Yeh Dave, above the hock you will never get supported by a cast and the end of cast will finish over the break causing problems. With the muscle around them and gravity tending to keep them in place they seem to do OK. We were always taught that a cast needs to immobilise the joint above and below the fracture.Got stepped on somehow, was broken between hock and ankle. We cast those breaks, above the hock we have found heal best if left alone.
Was nice checking at 1 am while this stuff was coming sideways.

Ankle is immobilized, likely most movement in hock is stopped also.
