Squeeze chute

Before you buy an Arrowquip be sure to ask how many head their friction system is good for. They told a friend of mine it was only good for like 300 hd. They started out real popular but are losing steam around here due to slipping, especially with rowdy cattle.
Can you elaborate more on what 300 head means?? It can't be 300 uses and then It's no good.. or am I reading this wrong?

They tried to tell him the friction parts were only good or needed to be serviced every 300-350 head depending on "use and conditions". They suggested keeping spares on hand.

It was really odd. He told the lady, mam, I run that before lunch. Her response was some thing to the effect of looking at their hydraulic model because the friction system was not designed for that kind of use.

I was not personally on the phone but I've heard quite a few failures stories so it kimd of made sense. That's also why I suggested people call the company directly and speak with them, first hand, before buying and make their own decision.

I just did some rough math and figure I've caught over 8000 head in my Arrowquip headgate and it's never slipped.

I don't know why some have issues and some don't.

If they are phasing them out though there must be some thing to it.

I don't have a dog in the fight. I don't have one and have no plans to get one. Just passing the info along as I know it's a pretty big purchase for a lot of people.

The first time I saw a Silencer squeeze chute was at an ag show in Spokane. I got to have this chute. Then the salesman told me the price. A great chute I can't afford. After that I saw and even operated a few at sale yards and feedlots. B had an old beat to death hydraulic chute. It was held together with baling wire and bubble gum. About a year ago he bought a new Silencer. It is one very fine chute. But unfortunately it is now twice the price that it was when I first saw one. One day I might win the lottery for multi millions of dollars. If that happens I will have a Silencer chute delivered.
not bragging but I do have the entire FZA system with turrent gate and even the hydraulic loading chute. I have 80k in it total I think its around 120 k or more now. the cows do what you want.. no questions.

And there was people on here who referred to me as money bags when I bought this place! I bought my Powder River XL squeeze chute new. But the palp cage, crowd alley, and sweep tub and all three different brands which were used when I bought them at auctions.

Do you have a setup like that indoors, under a cover, or outside? Also does it get washed down very often? I've used a few different hydraulic chutes and they are nice but seriously doubt I'll ever run enough cattle to really need one.

before this setup I had a manual powder river xl, before that a S04.

I built a building for it to be inside. 30x45x12 with grooved concrete floor, LED lighting, and water. system and all gates are concrete fastened to the floor. I wash it down everytime I use it. I poured the floor on a slight incline so the water will flow out the back and not just puddle. It makes it 10x faster to wash out. I built the same building before and poured a level floor and that was a big mistake. You wouldn't think it'd make much difference but its a game changer. I have a all steel heavy 7 bar corral around the buildings. no one tries to get out of this setup.

@cowman82 very nice setup. I was thinking about buying a new chute and adjustable alley over the winter so went and looked at our local farm store. I didn't know it but he's a Silencer dealer. I was really surprised at the number of Silencer chutes he had in stock. I'd guess he had 5 or 6 on in stock. I didn't look them over very good since it's not what I was after but I can't imagine there's anything better out there. Not sure who around here is buying them for him to keep that many. I ended up buying an adjustable alley from another place but am still thinking on a new Pearson chute. The adjustable alley made things allot easier this spring.

Adjustable alley that narrows up for calves?

Yes. It's a 20' adjustable width alley with 2 back stops, side exit door, and rear sliding gate. It is also sheeted 2/3 up. Our old ally was pipe and sucker rod panels. The cows weren't terrible but only way to stop them from backing up was a pipe and we all knows how that goes. Calves from 100# to 600# were terrible about turning around in it. This alley has a parallel squeeze in like our chute does. I our palpation cage doesn't squeeze but surprisingly no calves turned around in it. With the sliding door in the back you can fit 5-6 cows in the chute/alley and then load 5-6 in the tub. Before we had to empty the alley then load the tub or it caused problems. We've only used it once but it worked well. Hopefully we'll weigh yearling next week before we ship them and see how they flow. They were a real pain before.

I've been putting pallets in my alley (thanks to whomever suggested it on here). It's really helped me out.

My 10 year old uncovered wooden corral is showing the effects of rain/snow/sun.

I'd like to get something like cowman82 next. That'll last a couple lifetimes I can only imagine.

Also, the S04 does the job for me. Definitely could be better. I helped a buddy with a Tarter yesterday... couldn't give me one of those. Animal gonna get hurt in that thing.
