Southern Excellence Bull Development and Sale

Help Support CattleToday:

I like them all, but I liked 61 the best. Good luck at the sale, you guys have brought some wonderful cattle.

I received the last report on the Gizmo Bulls that will be in the Southern Excellence Sale on November 19th. Here is a break down from start to the final weights taken on 10/26.

Lot # Tag# Wt 6/26 Wt 10/26 Gain ADG Frame Score BSE
58 C2 738 1325 275 5.73 5.0 P
61 C17 808 1195 213 4.45 5.0 P
62 C21 796 1325 285 5.93 5.0 P
63 C32 778 1180 202 4.21 5.0 P
64 C41 804 1240 215 4.48 5.0 P

All five of the calves have preformed pretty darn well, but then I am a bit biased. We took yearling weights on our yearling bulls here at the house last Wednesday the flush brother to C41 our C37 calf weighed 1245 had a 40 SC and a frame score of 5.72. The flush brother to the C21 calf weighed 1110 and had a frame score of 4.6. Hopefully they will be well received on sale day.

For some reason when I post the columns don't line up oops.

I'm having trouble following your numbers. Did the 6/26 weight signal the start of the test? Was the gain from that date? Did the test end on 10/26 or earlier?

Tall timber

Sorry it does look really confusing. It jumbled up when I posted it. 6/26 was the first weight. 10/26the final weight taken prior to the sale. Looking at the jumble the first number is the lot number of the calf, the C number is our actual farm number of the calf. The next number is the 6/26 weight then the 10/26 weight after that is the total weight gained then the ADG of the calf between 6/26 and 10/26 then the frame score interesting all five are frame score 5 the P stands for passed their BSE exam. This is not actually a bull test in that the Bulls are ranked based on gain, it is a development program. Weights are taken, ultrasound information gathered and weights given to the consignors to show them how their Bulls are doing, but not a traditional type bull test.

Well, what I was himhawing about was the math I guess, to be more specific. For example:

#58

10/26....1325
6/26....-738
gain....587, not 275
adg 4.89 (120 days) not 5.73?

confusing. There has got to be something I'm missing here?

excellent point and I didn't check myself properly. I missed a column which was the Sep 8th weight of 1050 with the final weight on 10/26 at 1325 for a gain of 275 to give him the ADG of 5.73 I did check the math and I counted 48 days. 275 divided by 48 = 5.73. The other four calves had 9/8 weights of:
C17 - 982
C21 - 1040
C32 - 978
C41 - 1025

The boss is always telling me I could screw up a one car funeral....he may have a valid point.

Sorry not trying to confuse on purpose.
