Sore Foot

Help Support CattleToday:

Depends on the cause. Fescue foot - take them off of fescue and substitute some other grass/hay. Foot rot - antibiotics. Injury - anti-inflamants and pain medicine. Founder - time and no grain. Physical adnormality - correct foot trim or slaughter. I'm sure there are other causes but I can;t think of them right now.

pick it up and look at it first...then go from there.

Dun has hit the main areas.....you just got to figure out which applies.

I did forget one that caught me out last year. A rock wedged between the claws.

Sounds like the cause may be related to their diet since there are three with the same malady.
That or footrot or maybe very rough rocky ground.

Actually there are three that have developed this.
Pick up the foot and do a smell test if you have a squeeze, if it has an odor clean with bleach water and give a shot of LA, I always like to squirt a little on the effected area as well.

If it's footrot, and a sore foot usually is, LA 200 always clears it right up for me. I pour betadyne on the sore place as well. The times I see footrot most prevalent are when there's an extended dry spell following an extended wet spell.
