Yes, I bought her as a bred cow calf pair last year. She had a big belted heifer calf at side. She had that black bull calf now a steer back in October. The heifer is due to calve this fall.Is that a beltie in that top pic?
We used to have several, when they don't have perfect belts and you take them to the sale barn , buyers think they are Holstein and they don't bring muchYes, I bought her as a bred cow calf pair last year. I wouldn't really seek out out to buy belted cattle, just thought it looked like a good deal at the time. They don't really do too good in the summers here. They stay in the ponds a lot.
I kinda like the old contrary thing and may keep them a while longer.
Here it don't matter whether the belt is perfect or not they sell like a belt and it's at a significant discount. We used to have several, when they don't have perfect belts and you take them to the sale barn , buyers think they are Holstein and they don't bring much
I can't imagine having a belted bull. Our tendency to like Herefords is questionable enough market wise, but Hereford atleast makes for a good cross and marketable calves from black cows.Fella that has pasture close to our new hay ground has 3 bulls in with who knows how many cows ? He has a horned Hereford, an angus , and a beltie. All I can say is that beltie must be the boss . He has more belted calves than any other ! Can't imagine the difference he gets for those at the sale ?![]()
I guess I should have completed my thought. With broken belts you can't sell them to beltie breeders and have to take a hit at the sale barnHere it don't matter whether the belt is perfect or not they sell like a belt and it's at a significant discount.
