Good someone please tell me what Somatic Cell Count is. I read alot about it in dairy magazines and other farm magazines, but I have never known exactly what it is. If someone would take the time to describe it I would more than appreciate it.

Take care, Benjamin

They are cells present in milk that at elevated levels indicate, usually some sort of illness, but they can also be caused by stress, etc. Cell counts when they reach a certain level detract from the shelflife of milk and the milk doesn't work as well for making cheese. If you do a Google search for Somatic Cell Count you will get a whole bunch of sites with some very in depth information.
