Sold calves today

One thing here, all the cattle are weighed when checked into the sale. No ringside scales. The closest stockyard started comingling alot of the calves when the old owners sold and it changed hands... "yard graded" as opposed to state graded. They have changed some other practices and have lost some of the smaller buyers. They will sell one owner groups if you specifically request it.... They still sell singles when they don't meet what they consider to be graded calves.
One of the other stockyards will have a "graded sale" once a month.... and these are calves that are graded by the state grader... they usually bring a little better price. In the fall and in the spring they will have graded sales 2-3 times a month with the greater number of calves being sold... the 2 stockyards about an hour north of us both also have special holstein feeder sales in the spring and fall... once or twice a month... due to all the dairies and people raising bull/steer calves. With all the ones breeding a percentage of their cows to black bulls, the "holstein" feeder sales also have alot of the black 1/2 holstein / or half dairy breed cattle at them too. Even the ones that milk jerseys will breed alot of them to black bulls unless they want a replacement heifer and then they breed to sexed semen.
