Hauled off my three excessive chrome calves today and 1 purebred solid black heifer to Owensboro Livestock Market. They don't pick on the color off the calf like the market we generally go to.
Sold 2 black white heifers weighing 455 & 480 for a 1.18/lb.
Sold 1 black white bull weighing 525 for a 1.23/lb.
Sold 1 Solid Black heifer weighing 535 for a 1.16/lb.
They are creeping up a bit.

Sold the big end of my spring steers this week.

If you can't make money at that, you need to change something. sg

That's great for you. Yes, heavy weights are where the money is at. It's amazing to watch a whole cow sell for $300 - $400 going to slaughter at the auction and then on the way home stop at the fast food burger chain and see those prices for them little thin patty sandwiches.

You did well, saw a pen of 640 black steers sell in Bowling Green last week for $1.10. I was disappointed.

Sold 5 more feeders and a old cow Thursday 1/12/17 in Guthrie, KY.
Cow weighed 1225 and brought .46/lb. had a bad hoof.
Her calf a black brockle face bull weighing 455 brought 1.40/lb.
Black Bull Calf weighing 500 brought 1.3475/lb.
Black Blaze Face Bull weighing 590 brought 1.2275/lb.
Black Bull Calf weighing 600 brought 1.1750/lb.
Black Blaze Face Heifer weighing 555 brought 1.15/lb.
It was one of their bigger turnouts they've had for a while. A good supply of wean feeder steers came through.

3 year old black brangus 1st calf heifer, 1050lb., $.68 a pound. Lost on that girl. Just wouldnt breed back. She looked good.

That's pretty good for a lightweight packer cow right now honestly.

Big bounce since October. Most cow/calf folks sell here when they run out of grass. My spring calves are still on the cows.

Do you see a way where back grounding till the new year works well more than half the time?
