Basically to sum it up the risks of tobacco use are cut down about 99% by using smokeless tobacco over smoking. Of course, its not safe to do, but much safer than smoking. They promote smokeless as a "safer" alternative to smoking, but still not safe. Of course there are still risks, like gum recession and other problems with the mouth. But oral cancer is virtually no threat from it. Smoking and alcohol are the leading causes of oral cancer.

if you must chew something why not harmless ordinary chewing gum. in the stong flavors, anniseed has that kinda taste so I am told.!?!?!?!?

i chewed and di[[ed for 20yrs before i decided to quit cold turkey.an tobe honest with you i loved dipping an chewing.but i made my mind up to quit the day i had bought a 5 can roll of copenhagen.mind up i was a dipper that dipped constantly.only time it was out of my mouth was to eat.an before i quit i was dipping a can of snuff a day.i took ,y last dipp sitting in the sale barn.an all my friends figured id go nuts.but you can quit.no 1 can do it for you.ill be honest theres alot of times that i crave a cigar now.s,ell cig smoke an i breath it in deep.

Smoked 2 packs a day for about 10 yrs, I quit and gained like 60 lbs, wife didn't care was happy I quit. I have dipped some about a yr and quit wife wouldn't kiss me and her sister wouldn't either. I have a occasional cigar now and then but very few. Feel great and am 43 next week, Brian

For everyone that has a hard time with the
psychological cravings try going to a hypnotist.
I know it sounds stupid but it actually works.

I went to a hypnotist to quit smoking cigars. Now she smokes em too. I have a dog that has to put one of those things to his throat to bark. arf arf arf

Quit smoking in '89 when my son was born...quit drinking in '85
when I had enough. (never enough actually)
I don't degrade smokers, they can slowly kill themselves...just don't do it around me...nothing like a ex-smoker, something akin to a whore that got Jesus..tend to preach.
And that's my two bits worth...Dmc

Smoker. Man I hate those little bast$3?* though. I just can't kick em.

Yeah, me too. I can't seem to get past the psychological addiction.

Me, too. Been smoking 35 years now and can't count the number of times I've tried to quit. Patches and gum work great on the physical addiction, but that psychological thing is another story. I'll go a couple of days without and then it'll pop into my head that I've gone X number of hours and that's all I can think about. Guess I'm just weak. Bad thing is the wife smokes, too, so when we try to quit, one of us always breaks down and buys some. I guess you could say we enable each other. Even been hypnotized a couple of times. Didn't last long.

One thing though. We are very concious of how bothersome, and possibly dangerous, it is to others, so we NEVER smoke around people who don't smoke.

I've lost track of the number of times I've tried to quit, too. I don't smoke around other non-smokers, either.
