Don't know if this has made the rounds yet - my MIL sent it to me.

Lawn clippings will poison cows.
I've heard that before. Why would that happen?? Rarely, but occasionally, I have to rake up some of our lawn, and I feed it to our cattle. Maybe 1-2 wheel barrow full. They fight over it & it's quickly gone.

Lawn clippings have been most of my cows' diet for several summers, with plenty of mineral added as it seems pretty lush. I have wondered though if one used weed and feed if that would be a problem.

It's not the lawn clippings but the chopped leaves from overhanging trees/garden trimmings that get mixed in. Don't have yew, laburnum, arum, lily-of-the-valley tree, foxglove?
Some trees that are supposed to be poisonous I've seen cattle browsing with no apparent ill-effects (rhododendron and camellia, various of the pine family) but I still wouldn't deliberately add it to their diet.
