I have a older cow I purchased this fall. She has started to get a little thin so I weened her calf (5 1/2 months) and would like to put some weight on her berfore she calves again. She is on timothy hay I havent had it tested so I don't know how good it is and have a mineral lyx replacement heifer protien tub in with her and my heifers. My ? is if I were to supplement her with some corn or other grain what would be a good amount to start with? I am new to beef cows I dont want to waste grain on her but also want her to be ready to calv in july thanks

Its normal for a good milker to get a little thinner by the time they wean a calf. I probably would just let her gain it back on grass this spring. If she is really bad you could give her some feed just start her slow.

If you haven;t yet you might want to worm her just to cover your bases.
