says purebred but not reg...papers mean nothing to me cept maybe its a better sire dam combo ..blah blah...if they wont calf or they die then papers aint worth beans

i hate calfing hiefers tho..only way i can seem to get a decent deal and then i gotta wit on my returns...i guess i got more time than money unfortunately

Before ou breed them have them plevic checked. That should help with some of your distaste for calving heifers.

That first one looks like it ought to be in a cartoon movie or something.

They look expensive to me. Good young bred cows were bringing $650 last week. (I know we are in a drough market so say $800). You are going to have to feed those calves 2 years before you get anything. Pay twice as much for a young bred cow and have a calf on her side in 2-3 months for $500 payday in 6 more.

I try to not run down other's stock, but these look pretty sorry to me. Maybe it's just the pics, I hope. Either way good luck, you definitely got them cheap.

They are a sad looking bunch but i think with some time and feed they might be able to be bred at 2 or 2 1/2. It looks like their condition was caused by environment rather than other factors. Might pay to drench them and what not. If you don't mind a bit of work they'll be ok. They'll be small cows though. I'd really hold off breeding them until they are that age though. If you decide to do it show us in a few months how they go.

Do you guys have stock agents over there in america? They're people that buy and sell livestock for people. They also normally have a book with people who want livestock and people who have livestock to sell. And they also know the quality of stock their customers have.

i dont know of any..hell when i got to the 3 markts close by here all i see is the same 5-6 buyers...one of them told me once that one of his cust dont care about anything cept less than 300 lbs and black..and he was buying em all for whatever they were goin for he was high bidder.

maybe its me but the markts suck and im having a hard time buying stock otherwise..everyones stuff is gold when they wanna sell it but nobody will ofer ya anything for what youv got for sale

If they are 7 months old and providing they grow well enough to be bred at 14 to 16 months old, then add another 9 months gestation, plus 6 months to weaning... you will have invested at least 24 months (2 years) before you start recouping your money.

If you get them, plan on spending some money on feed. They look like they need it.

About a buyer. Ask at your feed store and your Extension agent if they know of anyone who can help you find good stock. You may have to travel to find it, but better quality cattle will pay off in the long run.

being as it isnt my primary income i can wait..grass is huge right now and ive got alotta grazing past in top cond luckily.feed is no problem. i have pellets on hand as i sell it to support my feeding of it..almost keeps me even...
its funny how hard a time im having trying to buy some cows...i wouldve thought the marky prices would have more people selling private but i guess they just take the beating in stride..the markts are so poor here that i seel my as beef even thos its waaay more trouble

Tuesday's receipts at Lakeland (610), Madison (432), Okeechobee (1615), and Webster
(905) totaled 3,562, compared to 4,723 last week, and 3,297 a year ago. According to
the Federal-State Livestock Market News Service, compared to one week ago, slaughter
cows steady mostly steady, bulls unevenly steady, feeder steers unevenly steady to 1.00
higher, heifers steady to 2.00 higher, replacement cows steady to 2.00 higher.

Slaughter cows 14 percent, bulls 1 percent, feeder steers over 600 lbs
4 percent, under 600 lbs 43 percent, feeder heifers over 600 lbs 1
percent, under 600 lbs 35 percent, replacement cows 2 percent.
