Simmental Cross Registration

I have a registered Simmental bull that's going to breed my Brangus cows. Do the cows have to be registered to register the calves or is it enough to have just the sire registered? Any input appreciated.

I contacted the ASA and they said that the dams do not have to be registered. They could be however as foundation animals for $10 each. For unregistered dams they just need a tattoo or ear tag number.
