I do select for calving ease and I like Dream On in a pedigree. I also calve in late summer which I believe helps. It requires much more management in the winter though.
Anne nearly all breeders graded up their herds through AI from mostly British breeds also developing a breed for the North American market. I do have a few yellows and a couple mahogany reds but more of the angus reds. The breed is Americanized and even regionalized. The Simmental breed is one of the largest in the world and and has successfully adapted around the world.
