Hey, i'm new to this, its only our 3rd calf to be born, and the other 2 went very smoothly.
my question is this: is a steer humping our very pregnant cow a sign that she is going to deliver soon? she is due today and have been looking tired all week but other than that she hasnt been sitting and then standing or moving away from the herd

can anyone help? :D

Shortly before calving there seems to be a different smell, probably hormones, that somtimes causes strane behaviour. From riding o beating th crap out of her and sometimes ganging up on her.
Problem id thta can be 2 hours, 2 days, or 2 weeks before they actually tart into labor.

Kate, she will have it when you least expect it......and Groton Ct,,,,,wowwwwwwwwwwww it's been a long time since I was in that neck of the woods. My US Navy days from the 70,s I actually went out on the Nautilus before she was de-commisioned in the early 70's after Admiral Rickover finally retired.

I lived in Ledyard for several years, I hear that is where they built the big casino.

you are referring to Foxwoods, the worlds largest casino. and yup, its right there in ledyard at the end of route 214 pretty much in preston. its humongous and they are currently doing more construction so it will double in size...im sure things have changed a lot since you were here last, i know they have changed drastically since i was a kid :)
also, they turned the nataulis into a museum. its in the water right down by the main gate to the base.

thanks for everybody's help!

Just me but I'd move that steer to another pen...cows will protect the new mama and may drive off the steer when she starts labor but I wouldn't chance it....not knowing the animals, that's my two bits worth. Dmc
