I haven't gotten him yet (or picked him out😅) but once i get him I will let you guys know☺️. But for now if you got any name ideas let me know I'd love to hear them, have a wonderful evening 😁.

Hello all! I will be posting videos on Facebook and maybe instagram from my families homesteading page, I might start a tic toc and YouTube channel depending on if my mom says yes. Basically I want to make videos to one help advertise my steer and two so I can help educate other people. I will start posting here soon so if you want some updates when I put them out I think you're going to have to follow/subscribe🤔. I hope you're all doing well!
(As soon as I get the links for the different pages I will share them here😅).

I'm curious why?
I will be auctioning him off at my local county fair, so posting about him/advertising him so that way people will be interested in purchasing him. At my fair we also have a add on system where if the people that can't buy an animal but still want to help support the 4h and ffa kids they can give basically a donation, example: 27lb turkey if they want to give a flat amount like $20 it would be $20 regardless of the weight, but if they want to give an add on per pound like $2 per pound it would be $54. Advertising my market animals helps to get people interested in my animal and to let people know about the fair and other kids animals as well, because there are actually a lot of people that don't know we do this. I hope this all makes sense let me know if I need to clarify anything 😅😊. (Sorry if my grammar sucks I'm working on improving it)

The best "advertising" for 4H is hand delivering sale invitations to local businesses. There is a noticable difference in sale prices between those that do and those that don't.
That's a new one.
Unfortunately 90% of the sale is politics. At least around here.
If a kid's dad farms 10,000 acres his fertilizer rep and banker will drive the price of the animal through the roof just to try to keep business.

But if a kid's parents have no ties to Ag it's hard to compete.

Or even worse if someone close in your family did something horrible you can just forget it.
A young man who's dad had a big hand in the closing of the local sale barn where I used to work. The dad ended up spending a couple years in federal prison over it. The young man was just a baby at the time.
He got reserve champion market barrow last year at the 4H show. They couldn't get a bid on his hog in the sale. The auctioneer ended up buying it just to keep the sale going.
Unfortunately it's all about your last name.

Unfortunately this is true. The no-name kids don't get a fair shake.

Very sad for the young man. Nothing like taking out frustration on an innocent kid. Shows a lot of character.

I always do hand delivered letters, the reason I want to post about it online is so I can also reach more people so when I do bring around letters those people will know how hard I've worked with my steer. I also love to educate other people, editing videos, and sharing my progress with other people like all of you! And hand letters aren't always the way to go with some people like I have some friends that live in Wisconsin well I live all the way in north cal, so because of technology I can email them an add on form if they want one. I'm extremely happy because my fair is now accepting add on forms and private bids by email instead of having to use the regular mail (I live in a rural area so mail is slower over here).

Yes unfortunately that is the case sometimes at my fair there are a few families that do end up getting more because of there last name. Most of those families have just lived in my valley for ages and/or they own a well known business, like excavation or engineering. I live in a small area so everyone knows everyone, so I at least have some ties with people in different AG things. If I don't give out letters and advertise then what it comes down to around here is if you do good in showmanship unfortunately. I'm glad it's not all politics here a lot of people are thankfully very understanding and all the animals that made weight got sold and the ones that didn't had found private buyers. My cousin decided not to sell his at fair and he found a private buyer that gave him I think $10 per pound. I'm so glad that there are understanding people like you out there it definitely helps us newer kids out:).

I would be very interested on how your project progresses. 2what you are planning to do showcases the hard work you are doing. Also pictures here throughout the year would be nice. Good luck with the steer. (I'm one that would have to see him before I name him)

Aww thanks so much☺️ I will of course add pictures! Do you think I should make a separate thread for just pictures or just keep them here on this thread?🤔
