I am only asking for anwers from people that show cattle. Please refrain from adding negatve comments. What do most of typically spend on a show heifer prospect?

I paid $2,000 for one the first part of Oct. and saturday I am going to pick up another for $800. Quite a difference. Both are purebred and registered.

once again showmom, you didn't answer your own question.

All you had to do was ask. We have spend as little as 600 buck on up to.......... well lets don't go there.

personally i don't care what anyone spends. i was just pointing out that you didn't answer because it happens quite frequently.

for the record.......you're the one who "went there":

This is a q&A Board. That means someone asks a question and then if someone else feels like it they give and answer. I askes a question becuse I wants an anser from other people. I have asked other questions as well. If you feel that I need to answer my own questions just ask and I will answer. As far as me saying....lets don't go there, I have said many times on this board that we sometimes pay a lot for cattle and I have gotten nothing but hell for it. I only wantes to know what others were paying.

you're right. i guess the reason i mentioned your asking & not giving info is because typically the questions people ask aren't delving into personal lives & personal info. several of the questions you have asked are what others have pointed out are considered rude. imo, this is another one. i don't buy show calves, but if i did it would be no one's business what i spent. sure, if i buy at a sale, it's public knowledge, but if i buy private treaty, no one needs to know. there are questions to be asked that are asking for help & opinions on breeds, brands, etc. other questions are just downright nosey!

after my post last night, i realized that i don't care what you spend, but i'm still curious why you purchase show calves (heifers & steers) when you have avg price of $16,000 bulls running around in your pastures. if you're purchasing other breeds, it seems to me it'd be a more accurate reflection of your operation and breeding success to show your own.

FYI the cattle that we are buying are a different breed than the "16,000" bull everyone keeps talking about. We are in the process of adding another division to the ranch, I beleive I have said that before as well. Funy how people only remember what they want. With that being said I will not comment to any post on this subject.

If memory serves me correctly it was 6 bulls with a $16,000.00 average..
Funny how some people forget what they want to forget.

La4angus,
You are correct. It was a typo we do have six. Fixing to be 5 though we have a buyer for one. Hopefully it will come through. Guess we'll see.

Thanks for the clarification. We certainly don't want to confuse people do we.

I've never bought a show heifer prospect.. I only show my own. Makes more sense to me to raise / show my own, since I'm trying to advertise my cattle, not someone elses.

Your right bull lady and we do show our own as well.

The only time we ever bought show calves was when we got started. Selected heifers, and bulls, that would show well, then would produce high quality show stock. And things have worked well for us.

showmom, please understand i'm not picking on you. i also apologize if my question is to difficult for you to understand & answer. i just don't really understand why you would want to spend a lot of money on a heifer from someone else's program on a breed other than you raise if you really have cattle the quality and prices you boast. please explain to us the benefit of showing a different breed.

when my daughter is old enough to show, the current plan is to only show our own cattle. if we do decide to buy, i can't see any possible reason we would buy a breed that doesn't fit in with our own program.

The brred that we have now was the "family" breed and my husband an I like another breed better, simple as that. We don't want to get away from the original ranch brred but we want to add something WE like better.
