Most of the steers winning at major shows will have some Maine-Anjou breeding, usually crossed with Angus or Chiangus or both. Recently a percentage of moderate framed Simmental is being used in Club Calf breeding. Maines have the thickness & muscle, Angus adds body depth and black hair, Chiangus adds style and trimness, Simmental adds heavy bone. Angus and Simmental also will improve maternal characteristics -after all, there will be some heifers, too.
: I was wondering what the best crossbreed or purebred to show is,as far as length and muscle?
