When we got DSL through AT&T, we called and subscribed to the service and they sent it to us through the mail. You get instructions to tell you how to hook everything up and you can call and talk to someone, as well. You put in the disk, it installs and you have the same internet you had before with the same email and everything. I have had several different ISP's and several ways of getting internet, but I have always had the same email address. Nothing should change except for the better. If I can do it, anyone can.
