sharpening sickle mower

This is probably a dumb question but here goes. Is there any way to sharpen the cutters on my mower other than removing the rivets?

Slide the entire cutting bar ( probably wrong term) out and you can sharpen them .... that is on the ones we had 30 years ago.... then again I may be wrong.

You might also consider spending the money and upgrading to a sickle with bolt in sections.

Take the entrie knife out and grind the edges of both sides of the sickles with an angle grinder.

old guys used to pull theirs everyday to sharpen, but why don't you use the serrated knives that don't need sharpening

Now you,ve made me show my ignorance. My cutters are serrated. I didn't know you couldn't "touchem up" or can you. I put a whole new cutter bar in 2 years ago and thought I should put an edge back on, although they still feel sharp. Should I just leave well enough alone? Thanks. Joe

Just leave them then. After you do a couple of rounds cutting with it, the rust will come off and the grass will rub the edges, sharpening the sections.
