Selling the farm

We accepted an offer on the farm and will be closing in a month and will have a couple of months to vacate. I am kinda attached to our cows-how do you cull your favorites? We will buy back a house on some land, just not as much as we have now. never thought this day would come, but we get so tired of fighting drought. It's gonna be a rough couple of months.

Why not get some help from a neighbor who you trust. Give him your record book put the cows in the corral and go to town for a couple hours.

So do I understand you correctly that you are keeping a few of your cows? Just moving to a smaller place?

I'd go for: the skippers, the open, the old, the one's with underperforming calves, etc..... in that order

Limomike-yes, we are keeping the kids show calves, our 2 limousin heifers and about 15-20 cows if we can find a place with enough land to support them. We have been running anywhere from 60-80 head and we don't have enough time to take care of them or the land properly while both of us hold down full time jobs. These last few years of drought has really hurt us and the land.

I am really sorry to hear that you have to pack it in. I hope you can find a good place to board your cattle that you want to keep.
