Is there any "best" time to sell cattle around Christmas between now and the end of the year? Or is it a crap shoot?

I avoid any sales just before or during Christmas. Several of the order buyers do not ship calves during this time. That said this year everything is different in prices so it might be different also. Check to make sure the market is even open as many of them will be closed next week and some even the week between Christmas and New Year.

The market is hot...Tomorrow is our last local sale for the year--but a lot of calves coming in to be sold before the new year.....The last two weeks sales (feeder sale 2 weeks ago- bred and cow sale last week) have just been out of sight for being hot... :D :D :D
Yep- too close to holidays and you start having trouble finding truckers and outlets....

If you don't need to get the money on this years taxes- and you have the feed- hold them til about the first of February... I think from then on (as folks dream of green grass) the market will be totally out of sight...

Went to the sale last Saturday at Wills Point, TX and calf market was plenty high. Went to Carthage yesterday and it looked like the order buyers were trying to finish orders this week as the market was really good. Saturday will be the last sale of the year in this area.

Saturday could be real good or a give away. Buyers could be pushing hard to fill orders or they could finish up earlier in the week and not need cattle.
