I have an opportunity to get a Scantech pt1 ultrasound unit, it's old (15 years or so) for $300 (was a $10K unit in it's day)

Anyone ever use one? Think it would be a worthwhile investment?

Yes, it is external.

No, it gives measurements somehow.. evidently couldn't be used for sexing, etc, but it is designed for preg checking

I bought it.. there were a bunch of other people interested and the seller said if it doesn't work for me he'll set me up with the other people who wanted it.
My vet actually has used this unit so I can get some pointers from him

Good for you. There's a learning curve for sure. I have a ReproScan ultrasound. It has a probe and a monitor or screen to show what the probe sees. I went to a school to learn and there was some frustration early-on at my lack of ability. I only use mine for myself-I will not ultrasound for anyone else. State of Kansas doesn't like anyone competing with veterinarians. I understand that.
Guess what I'm saying is-don't get discouraged. Expect some frustration. Just stay calm and try again. ;-)

I'd like to know how it goes so give some up-dates, please.
