I was told the sale average on Bulls was 14,000 lot 379 sold for 800,000 lot 1 230,000 lot 176 200,000 lot 84 160,000. Lot 514 heifer 500,000. Sounds like another great sale for an awesome program.

I was also told it was really really cold!

I saw the vidio of him selling. His front end looked like it would fall apart if he had to see natural use. JMO.

I'm trying to think through this and I am probably totally off but..
If the bull produces and they sale 10,000 straws a year at $20/straw= $200k...If the owners keep 1/2 that= $100k/yr. The bull would have to produce and stay popular enough to move 10,000 straws/yr for 8 yrs before the owner can hope to come close to breaking even.. Seems like a HUGE risk.

Do you need to take into account the heifers that are bred to him that he sells?

Ok Elation sold for 800,000 for 80% so the income thing is better than most bulls that sell. However you don't sell semen for multiple years if you don't advertise. Collection Costs and bull housing and care aren't cheap either.
What if he makes a son with a better CED, WW, YW, or heaven forbid alittle marbling or ribeye in his first or second calf crop. Then he loses out sales to the son who is now in a stud. There must be a plan B with this bull, only the owners know.

There were two surprises for me. #1 Herbster Angus did NOT buy the bull and #2 Elation is NOT out of 4136.
He is out of XXP, a linebred EXT bull whose photo was featured in Sinclair's Catalog with a guy sitting on top of him. At one point his Docility epd was rock bottom but it improved a great deal.

I see these sales and for the life of me I can't figure out how they'll make their money back. I can see spending $10,000 on a bull if he'll increase wean weights enough that his sons and daughters will continue to make money, but no way can one make $800,000 back or$500,000 back on that heifer. That's s lot of big money progeny that you need to sell.

Actually he looks a lot better than most of the ones at stud..no where near 800k good but good..when they claim they get that much, you can bet it lights a fire in the breeders...what keeps those angus wheels turning..

I always wonder what something like this does for the tone of the sale, as in how much more are the "lesser" lots driven up?
