I've had more than one calf die suddenly. The first calf we did an autopsy and found it died of Salmonella. Both calves were 1 month old, eating 2lbs of starter food, drinking 1 bottle of milk replacer and 2bottles of water in pails. Are the sparrows in this barn dropping enough droppings to cause the Salmonella?

you may think of sterilizing the bottles and other equipment that you have been using, milk can grow salmonella. Cleanliness is next to Godliness! the droppings could have some affect, may want to see what you can do about this also. Cats can help with birds and mice. May want to give the 1cc/100# of Vit. AD&E, and some type of antibiotic (LA200). There are several other shots that go with newborn calves, ck w/vet. Are you using eggs in the milk? i've added a link on salmonella, may help. good luck
