Safe to buy feeders at auction?

Thank you all for your inputs and thoughts! I am just unsure what to do. I am having a hard time finding steers for sale in my area so I might go to the feeder sale august 10th, and see if I can snag anything there.

Is this for sale or just personal consumption?

The vast majority of feeder steers in this country go through the sale. There is a whole lot more good or even great calves than there are bad ones. People go to the sale and buy one because it is cheap. Well there was a reason it was cheap, Then when it turns out to be sick those people then go to bad mouthing sales and the cattle that go through.
