Runny nose/drooling

We've got a mama cow with a 4 day old calf. We had trouble getting the calf to nurse and her bag swoll up really big. We finally got him nursing and got her bag milked down BUT now she has no appetite, her nose runs like a faucet and we think drooling at the mouth but it's hard to tell exactly where all the stuff is coming from. This morning it was very thick and cloudy, after a cortizone/B12 and penicillin shot, the stuff is literally running out of her, very thin and clear. Tonight, her tongue is beginning to protrude from her mouth! Has anyone got any suggestions on this subject? Thanks for ANY help!

Sounds like it could be wooden tongue. You need to have your vet check her - it is easily treated.

Talk to your vet ASAP. Could be one of the myriad problems associated with frshening and early milk production.

Just want to follow up and say THANKS for the advice. Mama cow was getting sicker so we loaded her up and went to vet. He diagnosed her with acute mastitis (sp) also known as blue bag. He gave her shot of cortisone/B12 and pumped her teat with "something" (can't remember the name of medicine). He said the teat would either rupture or we would lose the cow. Praise God, this morning the teat had ruptured, the swelling was way down and she was ready to eat! We're continuing penicillin shots for the next few days. So again, thanks and God bless.
