Here's the prices for beef at our local store...




Doing the conversion from $58 CAD per Kg to USD/lb, that's close to $22/lb

And we're here scratching our heads about why there's reduced demand?

What cut is the tenderloin? Is that eye fillet or rib eye? It would need to be at that price.

It's a prime cut for sure, but look a the color of it in the first package.. looks disgusting and gray!

The tenderloin in the fillet, so obviously it's going to be expensive. The first one is off colored because it's nearing it's expiration date. That's why it's marked down do much. Notice the "packed on" date is missing on the Special label. Sams Club website has Choice tenderloin listed at about $15/lb, cheaper if you buy the whole thing. Not sure why it's so much cheaper.

Grass fed ground beef is $8/lb at the local butcher shop. They've gone from one grass fed meat case to three in the last year. Hard to wrap my head around.

$24.49/lb for prime beef tenderloin roast at one of our regional grocery stores here in Texas.
USDA Prime tenderloin steak at the same store is 24.99/lb.

If I understand the following correctly, (and I may not) Canadian AA=USDA Select grade.

The U.S. equivalent grade for Canada Prime is USDA Prime. Canada AAA, AA and A are equivalent to USDA Choice, Select and Standard respectively.

So, that's pretty expensive for a Select cut of beef.

Prime sirloin was $14.00 at M&T meats Friday. Probably some of the best beef I've ever ate.
