Got the results from the states Hereford Influence graded feeder sale. Looks like the Black White Face steer calves sold 4-10 cents more than the straight Herefords, with the Red Cross calves selling about middle between them. The heifers were much heavier docked. Some straight Hereford heifers were 20-24 cents behind comparable weight BWF. This was a CPH- 45 type of sale in that the requirements are the same. Weaned at least 45 days and two rounds of shots. We decided that we are not likely to wait for that sale any more and just sell when we are ready, especially if we have mostly black/BWF calves. We sold a straight Hereford bottle raised heifer calf that just never did thrive in the regular sale that brought $237, I had figured she might not even bring $50. Our other bottle calves grew well.

That's interesting. I see real similar results just going to the auction barn.

Black or Black white face will top the market. We just topped last week at 1.72 on a #450 bwf steer. A red calf with white on face, red mott, will be pretty close behind. The more white either the black or red has, not on their face, the deeper they get docked. It's not a bad dock IMO if they are still big, stocky, steers, but if its a heifer or low grade bull the greater the dock.
