Here's some of the girls we kept this fall. They're growing up quite well I think....

Shorthorn x Angus

Shorthorn sired, out of a mostly Angus dam. A little Hereford and Gelbveih in her too.

Probably Angus, but could have some Simm in her. Bought her mama bred.

Out of a 2 year old heifer. She'd be nearly pure Angus

Shorthorn sired out of a Blue Roan Hereford marked cow. She's one of my favorites!

Out of our oldest cow last year. We've since culled the old lady out, she was going on 17. She's mostly Angus

Nice heifers should make some good cows. I like that white faced blue roan, used to see some of those around here when I was a child but now it's pretty rare. I was at the stockyards last summer and a couple Shorthorn x Hereford heifers came in. One is marked about like a red white faced version of that one. She is due to calve next month to our Angus bull, maybe her calf will have some roan markings and I'm hoping if it does that it's a heifer calf. Not sure exactly what breeding that last heifer is, my guess is y'all are right maybe longhorn cross. Could maybe be some dairy breeding like Jersey. What ever she is I think she will likely make a pretty reliable cow.

I love that roans, she's a good one. Her sister raised a 660 lb calf as a heifer this year too.

I know where the bridle comes from, quite sure she's got some longhorns going on.

I have a big frame brindle longhorn cross cow that always calves first or close to it. She weans off a nice calf, only 1 of her calves out 5 has turned out to have any identifying longhorn features. The cow has become one of my favorites but she is not one to mess with for a couple weeks after calving.

Nice calves Randi, they are the type I like to see.

Couple questions about your Shorthorns...…

Do their bags hold up well? A neighbor when I was a kid had a lot of Shorthorn blood in his herd, I still remember milking down those turnip teats so the calf could suck! They have changed a bunch I know but interested in your experiences.

How do the Shorthorn calves sell there? There are too few here and they get discounted badly.

We rarely have issues with udders. I haven't milked a cow down in years, and don't think ever with any of my Shorthorns.

We don't run too many pure Shorthorn. The red/blue roans get docked, as well as any spots. But cross with Char, and the buyers just snap them up, regardless of spots or roans.

Yes, they would shine there. Good to know breeders have made them that good. Have you bought any bulls from Lehmans? I know Murray from a long while back when he worked Mac Creech's sale.

At least around here, the breeders have done a good job. We have not bought any bulls from Lehmans, so far. We did tour his herd this past summer though, and were pretty impressed. So it quite likely we will in the future.

We aren't too far from Muridale, so we buy some from them, and there's the Sun Country sale at Moose Jaw that we've bought from also (Alexander's and others)

I'd bet money those bottom 2 have dairy in them!

For the Brown, it's quite unlikely, I know the place she comes from. Lots of Longhorn, Angus and Char. But no dairy.

And the black, she looks to be Shorthorn cross, could be Maine, too. But the other calf out of that pair, made me think it could be Simmental. Regardless, @650+ lbs, those 2 cows were a good purchase.
