reading an onion

Does any one know how to read an onion to predict the weather ? Was told by this man if an onion is cut and laid out By midnight of the new year. Each piece would tell if we were going to have a wet month or a dry month. Next month is suppose to wet.
I myself never have done this but it sounded interesting. Does anyone else know how to do this ?

This can be done with a persimmon supposedly. Ask an older farmer, maybe they can tell you.
