Be careful with that.
They can looked smashed but with hinged jaws they can shape back up and be as alive as ever.

Kill snake. Step on head with heel of boot. Cut off the head with pocket knife. Dig hole and roll head into it. Never touch snake head with anything but boot. Problem solved.
