rat tailed calves

i have had two "rat tailed calves" born in the past 2 weeks, brangus bull, and one mother was a crossbreed cow, other mother a charlais cross cow. i have read one time where breeding a black cow/bull to a yellow cow/bull can produce a calf such as this. the calves have very short hair, short tail with no hair. has anyone got any information on the genetic defect that causes this.
