Rain, rain....

Sounds like north Alabama. If you don't like today's weather just wait it'll change tomorrow.

I have lived in a lot of locations and everyone says that, even in Europe and Asia. Its also true in every place. Are we more aware as we age or because we experience more that we can measure storms against. I have had my share.
What I have noticed here in west, TN. is that a storm will either split and go around us or slow and be concentrated on top of us. Odd formations, storms like I have never encountered before.

We were already saturated with water.
Been seeing pictures from across KY of roads washing out, The entire Pikeville Walmart lot is under water.
Have a friend that works for the national weather service in Jackson and they are stranded, at the office.
Last night I believe there were reports of atleast 4 people that had died as a result of vehicles getting stalled out in high water and then they were washed away.
Here in the county, some roads are closed and at least one is breaking apart.
Water up in a lot of houses and businesses across the state.
Edited to add the death toll stands at at least 8.

People fail to take into account that they cannot tell if the road is intact under the surface of the water. It is human nature and can be deadly. I hope this system moves on and the water goes down without more folks suffering losses.

My extension agent gave me some pointers this morning. Areas that have been flooded may have pathogens brought in from who knows where. My stockpile fescue is covered but only by water from my farm. Also any hay thats been covered could have been contaminated. Think of this as the water goes down. A tremendous amount of flooding here but im lucky.

Sounds almost like Sand Mtn which is the last tail end of the Appalachian range . We are more a plateau than a mountain. And the Tennessee River runs along the western edge of the Mtn . Ive watched rain after rain follow the river and we never get a drop or split and go north and south of us . Strange but we seem to be in the bullseye for tornadoes over the last several years . I have lived here for over 50 years and we never had tornadoes till about the 2000's

Got another .7 rain last night . Went to the storm shelter about 12:30 and stayed about an hour . Mostly straight line winds .
Woke me up at about 3AM thundering and torrential rain. We had tornado warnings here and surrounding counties, but haven't heard of one touching ground yet. Creeks were out of their banks again this morning. Right now it is in the 40's with high winds and gusts. Went to town about 1PM and it was hard to stay in your lane when the gusts hit.

i look at the weather news daily. seldom believe it, but gives me something to gripe at the weatherman about. really frigid weather coming (relatively speaking, for us sissies in texas.) nothing like you friends in the north and east.
i could tell about my years of the weather conditions when i raised turkeys, but no one would believe me.

anyway, just looked at my local maps. am i the last to know that google maps has changed the gulf of mexico to the gulf of america??

Just saw where the number of deaths from the flooding in KY is currently at 11.
The weather forecast is saying 4-8 additional inches of snow Wednesday for much of the state.

We got just over three inches of rain, but it came fairly slow and did not cause much damage.
The new snow does not sound good as I have been regularly having new calves born. This is some of the worst calving weather I have seen in many years.
My Mom, who turns 90 in April, came down with Covid. The hospital stay was difficult but caring for her at home is proving even more difficult. My wife and daughters have been troopers but we are facing some tough choices.
