After working on the ranch for over two years, my complexion is suffering and begging for help. I've suddenly got the complexion of a teenager... not in a good way. I'm hoping there are a few ladies around who are out in the dirt and grime every day, like I am, and can share some product info. I'm having trouble finding a balance that actually gets my face clean without over doing it. My moisturizer isn't cutting it, either. Hoping for some advice before I replace my whole system because skin care costs a fortune.

TIA

Geography matters. When we lived in TX, my skin care routine was vastly different. And then there's age. Yikes! When hormones change, so does your skin. Although it seems counter intuitive, if you're getting "teenager skin", keep slathering on the moisturizer so your skin doesn't work overtime to produce excess oil.

I use Cetaphil cleanser, extra moisturizing. Nuetrogena face serum SPF 60 plus SPF 30 base during the day. Loreal midnight cream with retinol. Differin if I get a rogue zit. All of it from any drugstore. And I always wear a baseball hat or winter hat with a brim.

Excellent! Thanks! I was going to try the Cetaphil cleanser because its what I used when I lived here forever ago. I wasn't sure about it though because of my age, even though I have been on a topical therapy from Winona that has done wonders to greatly alleviate most of those symptoms. I've give the whole system a shot. Thanks for the response!

Way I ask what is your age? This could have something to do with what to use. I lived most of my life in Texas. Myself I have been working outside for years and too tired to do all the skin care routines. No pimples but my face skin definitely needs a peel or exfoliation exfoliation. I have calluses on my hands so bad I had to use Dr. Sholls corn and callus remover for weeks. When I was a kid my great Aunt told me if you keep riding that horse without gloves you are going to ruin your hands. Well, they're ruined. I'm 70 now and I no longer care :)

Not the gender you addressed but I fought acne until I quit using anything but straight water to wash my face with. The water here is near to perfect according to tests, not sure your situation.
I appreciate the input! I've been in this house (on this well) for about six months longer than I've had the issue and wondered if they could be related. The water certainly makes my skin and hair dry, which maybe a major factor.

I didn't intend for my question to discriminate, but I did want it to get the ladies' attention.

I'll be 53 in June. I went through The Change around 48-49 and stopped wearing makeup altogether by 50 because it was like I woke up one morning with a whole different face. I couldn't make anything work. Right after my birthday this year I started estrogen replacement therapy that has worked miracles for a lot of my worst symptoms, and my symptoms were extreme. It's a shame that the industry of "do no harm" prefers to let women, and I mean 100% of ALL women, suffer with a condition that is guaranteed to occur, without exception rather than allow women to make their own decisions for their health and comfort. I'm glad it's changing and women are beginning to have a voice in their own healthcare.

If I'm honest, I have to admit that I know diet has a lot to do with my skin condition. I haven't been a big consumer of sugar for years and up until this time last year I was on a "clean" diet of no sugar, no bread, no carbs, no processed meat, no beef, no alcohol, no caffine, and moderate dairy. I only ate fish, veggies, fruit, fermented food and occasional rice, chicken and pork. for a long time. I had a major operation last December, after which I ate and drank little more than tapioca pudding, noodles, and ginger ale for 4 weeks. For the past year I have struggled with sugar and carbs more than I ever struggled with alcohol. I'm still struggling and constantly cutting back, but there's no doubt sugar is a factor in my skin issue.

@Spot & Bubby are you origally from that area or dif you move there in the last 6 months?

It tore me up when I worked in wtx. The air was dry and I was use to humidity. I think there water was different too.
I was raised here, but I left for Alaska in '89. after that I was a rolling stone until I moved back to the county in 2019. Into this house 2 years ago come breeding season. Skin started acting up about 6 months after moving into this house.

Excellent point about the water. We are on well water and have a complete R-O/soft water system - it's like having bottled water pumped through the house. BUT if the motor or bladder dies, something goes wrong (which is always, without fail, during the weekend), we can bypass the R-O system and still use the water in the holding tank (that still has soda ash in it) and eventually straight well water. Straight well water = nasty, dry skin, hair, wrecks havoc on the dishwasher & washing machine, etc.

"You are what you eat". I get that. In theory. I'm a horrible eater and eat whatever I want, just not much. I've seen zero difference in my skin or weight when the occasional guilt kicks in and I try to eat healthy. Menopause? I just rode it out and slathered on more moisturizer.

Wrong gender, but a question. Is it humid in Runnels County?

I grew up in a dry climate. Went to Alameda in the Bay for boot camp and had no issues, but when I went to Norfolk on the east coast my skin got bad. Once I got off the east coast everything cleared up. And I second @gcreekrch and suggest clean water and letting your skin go back to natural oils. My wife has the best skin I've ever seen on a woman her age and she uses nothing but water on her face. Lotion on the hands and occasionally elsewhere, but not on the face.

Pretty dry.

My wife said this may help.
May be a side effect of the therapy meds, long list.
