I heard someone has contracted Q Fever. They said he gotten the fever from his cows. Can anyone tell me what Q Fever is? Or how he may had gotten it? We suspected it came from the neighbor's bulls who had Tric., the neighbor had gotten Q Fever.... Thanks y'all.

Q fever is a rickettsial disease whose reservoirs include sheep, cattle goats dogs and some wild animals. It most often affects vets, meat /dairy workers and farmers. Ticks transmit the disease to animals ( who usually show no symptoms) then shed massive numbers of the organisms in placetal tissue giving birth. These become airborne and can be carried as far as 1/2 mile down wind. Tetracyclines are used to treat acute Q fever, but the disease can become chronic. Hope this helps.
