This is a herd that has spent the winter about an hour south of here, just north of the Red Deer river, a bit unusual for them not to move at least across the river for the winter. There are about 45 in this bunch. This has been a non winter up here this year and they have wintered verywell. Unlike last winter, which was very severe and resulted in the loss of 80% of the southern Alberta herd. We normally have 10 does fawn and summer on and around our ranch. So a common sight. Last summer because of the high winter kill we had no resident population. So it is really nice to see this bunch this winter. They typically have twins so if they get a few good winters they will get their numbers back up before to long.

Kathie you have chosen one of my favourite singers...such a loss, shame her music was not produced before her death.
