Priefert SO4

Help Support CattleToday:

biggest animals i've had were probably some 1800 - 2000 lb bulls and they went through decent enough.

The place that has that chute is JD equipment here in ohio. You'd probably be able to get it shipped for pretty cheap.

I have a Powder River XL manual thats practically brand new I'll sell you for 3500.00. Thats a deal.

True grit.. I have not checked out the arrow in person, but i have seen the ads for them. They do look like a very nice chute and I really like how the catch mechenism puts you in the rear of the chute.

I bought my SO1 from JD this spring. With the wishbone carriage $3500. Beef expo special.

I previously used my vets SO4 and it's about 5" longer than mine and has a different rear door. Mine has the single slider door and the SO4 has the split, pinch type door

Have you ever worked a Arrow? No comparison, IMO. Priefert is a good chute because of the head catch, and customer service otherwise I don't think their much better than anything else.

Love our Arrow. Saw the newer 86 model at the Coop recently and I drooled all over the place. All the news features are outstanding.

The extra length on the SO4 makes a lot of difference to me because about half the time I run the cow into the chute but not thru the headgate. If by myself I am on the wrong side of the chute when pushing them thru but can kick the split rear door to trap them until I can get to the other side. Atwoods around here usually has the best deal at $3600 for an SO4. Mccoys will usually be at that price if you get a quote from their ag specialist. Are the Arrows comparatively priced?

I like my so4 for the most part. Have ran thousands of cows/ calves though it. One thing, I can never get the auto head catch to work well. Also I would like for it to be a tad longer. Some of my very long cows have a hard time fitting in. These are very minimal complaints, and I would buy another one. Have the wheel kit for it also, I can have it set up by myself in a couple min. I had trouble with the wheel kit bracket bending the frame of the chute, but I bent it back and welded a 2 3/8 pipe in there. Now it's bomb proof

Maybe my cows are just wide - Simmental - but do you have any that barely pass through the open tail gate?. Btw. I never have trouble with the auto catch.

I took a round file and slicked/rounded the holes off, almost like a hair trigger, when their shoulders hit the head gate to release the auto closing. Also when I know I am going to be using it I take a can of penetrating oil and it makes it work smooth. The wilder/crazier they are the better it works. My biggest complain is the floor is to slick, I have had to release some that got down because their feet went out from under them and got in a terrible position. Someday I am going to weld something on it to make it better.

I will have to try that. Most of my cows are calm walk though the shoot slowly. Maybe that's my problem.
Last week I had a cow having trouble calving, she would hardly fit through the rear door. She was huge fat tho, one of those you wonder how she can even walk. Like I said, my main complaint is the length. Some of my cows are getting pretty long and don't fit real well.

I picked up the SO4 Chute, palp cage, and trailer this weekend. I am very pleased with the chute and palp cage but not sure about the trailer yet.

The trailer comes with used tires which is ok but these are dry rotted, cracked, and leak air right in front of you. I'm getting new tires today. The trailer had a bad hop from side to side. It literally looks like the chute is going to flip over if you get over 5mph.

I also had to open up both hubs and snug the nuts up. One was just a half turn or so. The other was every bit of a full turn. It was moving a good 1/2" or better.

To me it looks like the spindles are mounted crooked to the trailer but I don't think that would cause the bad hop unless it's making it flex or some thing.

Guess I'll have to see what the new tires do and go from there.

I remember these things always being a little squirrelly but this one is pretty bad. It's seems like the S04 is a little big for that trailer set up.

I didn't take a second look at the trailer as I was looking for a permanent spot. I'm sure you'll like that chute and I hope you get the problem worked out with the trailer.

Brute, got any update on how you like the SO4? I'm in about the same boat as you were. Have an old wooden chute in need of replacement with just a Model 91 headgate which I really like. By the time I were to rebuild all of the doors and such the way it is now, I think I'm way ahead to finally get a squeeze. Was looking at the SO1 but sounds like the SO4 is worth the extra coin. I've been neglecting things too, the posts are rotten and it got pretty sketchy last time I worked cattle. My girlfriend insists we aren't using the old one any more until I rebuild it because it's not safe. As much as I don't usually like to admit it, it's hard to argue with her on this one lol. So I need to get on the ball with something. Nothing good used around here since we aren't exactly in cattle country so I think I'm going to have to grit my teeth and get something ordered.

They are worth it IMO... no complaints on the actual squeeze chute. Just understand the trailer deal is pretty sketchy going in.

What do you mean by sketchy? I am also in the market when I sell my calves within the next month or so? Never mind that, I went back and read your problems with the trailer.

I probably had too high of expectations for the trailer. The SO4 is the best bang for the buck squeeze chute on the market IMO. Should have gotten one years ago.

I have an so4 also. Do you ever have an issue with the head gate locking up when fully open?
I have to be real careful not to open it to far, or you will miss cows. I've oiled it several times

No I don't. I have just a head gate also and it doesn't have a problem either.

I don't try to catch cattle with it wide open. The smaller the hole the better.

x2....I Love our Arrow (Q-86) and previously we have used Powder River, Tarter, and Sioux Steel. Arrow beats them all in my opinion. Even get a few neighbors asking if they can Trick their bulls using our chute. Just a solid chute and easy to run!

The Arrows are nice but not in the same price range to get apples to apples.
