Man oh man, sure makes me grit my teeth with these prices. Got a couple of liners ordered for Friday to take the calves to auction. Sure wish there would be a jump in values between now and Saturday's sale.

Take care.

CattleAnnie:

The whole set aside program in Manitoba is a joke. Its not going to hold back enough calves to make any difference at all. Most guys aren't interested in the obstacles to the program. Most of the guys that are applying were going to hold those calves back anyway and are just hoping to get paid a few extra bucks. I hear Alberta has a better program. Good Luck on your calves.

CRR,
I talked to both of the local brand inspectors and neither of them know anyone in the BC Peace area that is holding back calves under the set-aside program. $200.00 to feed a weaned calf for a year (and not being able to sell that animal until the year is up) is a joke... a damn sad one at that. $500.00 would be do-able, but not what the CCA has come up with. And that couple of hundred is payable back from any CAIS money that you'd receive as well (IF you qualify - another joke of a system). Bleah. Enough said.
Hope you don't get too much snow.

Take care.
