My son has a 2 year old Simbrah show Cow with a 1 month old bull calf at her side. She did okay on the show circuit.....winning little shows like the North Texas State Fair as well as the state association show. At the majors she was never lower than 3rd place. What kind of price do you ask for the pair. We paid $2000 when she was a calf. What do yall think? Thanks

Generally, "show heifers" get more money as a calf than as a cow. A lot of the value as a calf is the fact that she can be shown. Not very many kids are looking for a COW to show. Prices always depend on the demand & how much you want to sell her. Having a bull calf vs a heifer calf doesn't help her price. You should be able to get the $2000 you put in her.

No, ours is out of TSC Powerline. I will post a picture when I can find where a put my camera.

I have bought a few left over show cows from FFA and 4H'rs. I pay no more for them then I would any other cow of the same breed. I will usually pay less and here is why. My experience has been that these cows are around 2 years old or older and are not bred. I like to get them bred early. The other reason is typically they are too fat! Being too fat at least down here in the heat/humidity capital most always causes a delay in breeding or becoming pregnant. The last one I bought didn't breed (take) for almost 6 months after I bought her and I know it's not the bulls faults. It actually has to be pretty good deal for me to buy a fat un-bred cow anymore.

I agree that you should be able to recoup your investment of $2000, especially if you can find someone wanting to raise show quality calves.

I have a question. If your heifer is that good, why not keep her and AI her for more Show Heifers or Breeding Bulls?

I wish we could keep her. The problem is....we live in the city. We use to not, but subdivisions sprang up all around us. So inorder to keep the new neighbors happy, we keep our numbers to a minimum. We have two new heifers on the way, so someone has to go. Since she is on her last months on the circuit, she is the logical choice.

She's out of good bloodlines, I would think you could pretty easily recoup your initial investment.

TSSA has a couple of sales coming up.. unfortunately they're in the fall. I don't know how long you can keep her, but that might be an option for selling her. Quiet, attractive Simbrahs have been selling well in the sales this year!

I tell you what you are a very nice person to sell a good calf to keep people around you happy. There is subdivisons going up now by my house and we have about 50 mama's and I would not sell them for anybody because they smell or make noise.

Finally discovered how to post pictures. This is the one we are having to sell. Do you think we should still get our money out of her?

Great looking Heifer! Great looking calf! She's proven herself.
KEEP HER, feed out the calf, and next year give the neighbors some hamburger meat when you have them over for your Cookout.

She should bring at least $2,000 - $2,500 at any registered Simbrah sale. I remember seeing your cow/calf pair during the Roundup and she looked like a good calf raising machine. The bull calf would bring $1,000 at weaning and the cow $2,500 if you wait a few more months. If you want to sell her, put her into the SESA sale in Tyler this September. Let me know if you are interested or contact Roy Schwake about putting her in.
