We have just discovered a heifer(now 15 months old)must have been mated by our herd sire when she was still on her mother.Looks to be due soon.<br>Will take the calf by caesarian.What is the earliest a premature calf can be expected to survive at and still be a useful animal?<br>The resulting calf should be a good one,on bloodlines. <br>

There are always animals outside of the normal thinking, so this is NOT gospel. Generally, if they have hair when born, they will survive. Many of them often die around the time they should have been born, however....Usually after 8 months they'll make it. As for useful, no guarantees at any point, of course. If the lower incisors are present when born, better odds.
