These are called red stars . They are a hybrid and lay brown eggs . The ones we have now are going on their 4th season of laying . Hope these last half that long ! Not usually broody and we don't keep a rooster . First time ordering from this place out of Texas . Usually order from Murrey Mc Murrey out of Missouri. They weren't going to have chicks to late fall .

Ideal Hatchery? Have had very good luck with them in the past.

Mean Red had a calf unexpectedly Wednesday. Franchise bull calf. Must have pulled the bull a week too late. She calved in July last year.

Swear he standing like a pit bull in the shoulders/front legs yesterday. Like 12 inches between his front feet. It was kind of freaky!

Going to be hard to get 3 cuts if we can't get started here soon up this way.

Any idea how long it'd been in the barn?
Just 2 or 3 weeks, at least the hay on the front end. Not sure if all of it was new hay or some left overs. I have always heard that the biggest danger is stacking just baled higher moisture hay against dry hay. One generates the heat and the other ignites easier.

Several years ago I was baling hay with my cousins round baler. I just had dropped a bale and looked across the field to see a bale on fire. The neighbor called the fire department and they so much water on that one bale that you could push a two foot rod in the ground by hand. The next day went to pick up some bales in another field where I had started and there some smoldering going one near several bales. I'm just thankful I didn't burn up my cousins tractor and baler that night.

I've ordered chickens from Murry McMurrey and they've always been good birds.

This time I ordered ducks from Valley and I'm not sure I got what I ordered. I ordered silver Appleyard ducks and I think they are crossbred with Welsh harlequin. I like them anyhow... but only one looks purebred. Appleyards shouldn't have a black bill. The one in front is the one that looks like it should. Hey... as long as they lay eggs...
