We don't need any of that illegal weed. Heck there is a store opening up just down the street. There is even a guy up in Seattle running a delivery service, just like calling out for a pizza.

How else we gonna keep abreast of the polio epidemic? Liz the only one toting the news. Just connect the dots. :bang:

Dang, M5, I guess I'm just not reading enough cause I wasn't even aware of this imminent demise of the cattle industry.
To whom, do you recommend, should I pay the attention?

Yes cf the sky is falling. To much sulfur, red saddles, cancer, polio, drooling etc. I'm under the impression we should all ship all of.our cows. I'm really not sure where we should ship them cause heaven's forbid they end up in the food chain and ultimately at taco bell. I have a couple of store bought burgers on the grill that I'm pretty sure came from a dairy cow. I don't even know if I can call them burgers cause I found out that dairy cows are not beef. All this time I thought they were. I thinking of only eating crablegs from now on.

  :cry2:   ....

Maybe if you call them Buef burgers, with an Inspector Clouseau type French inflection, you'll confuse him enough to get away with it. :p

I missed the crab comment, you must fill me in, it sounds hysterical! :lol2:

All this brings to mind Upton Sinclair who was a socialist journalist who spent a few weeks working in a meat plant in Chicago so he could write his political fiction expose the Jungle. In this book, he bashed the meat industry which resulted in an uproar from the public and the subsequent passage of sweeping food safety regulations. These regulations ultimately led to the destruction of the small meat business that dotted the country since very few could comply with the new regulations. If you've ever wondered why there aren't more small packers around you can thank this guy and the ignorance of the people to allow the government to do this.

Gone are the days when you could bring a cow to the butcher/grocer and have him split it with you and sell half of it in his shop while your half went into the ice house for storage. Gone are the days of your knowing the person who raised the meat that sat on the shelf at the grocer. Those days are gone because of this guy and ......the ignorance of the sheeple.

One of the things that always caught my attention was the government's banning the use of those beautiful butcher blocks that we all associate with a butcher shop. (or the older folks anyway) Been used for hundreds of years but the USDA found them to be unsafe. What's funny about the butcher blocks is when they outlawed them inspectors threatened to shut stores down if they used them so they were sent to the dump. I know one inspector who did a butcher a favor and hauled three of them to his house at no charge. Of course, after further study they learned their study was flawed and these butcher blocks were just as safe as the moly boards they forced everyone to purchase at ridiculous prices. Now you can use them but you'll probably have a hard time finding one since all those businesses that manufactured them went out of business as well. But you can always turn to the government. I'm sure one of the inspectors might have one they'd be willing to sell you.

All I know is if we can't get the government to come to our aid and force the cattle industry to give us some gluten free meat the sky is going to fall and kill us all.

Jo, where I live, lots of people sell meat directly off their farms. It's often spoken for a year in advance. There are even beef CSA's now. Surely that happens down your way too?

Are you saying they are doing this without going through a USDA processing facility? If so, that is highly illegal.

Not too long ago we had three butcher facilities within our city limits. These were also grocery stores and you could carry them a cow and have it butchered and it sold on site. Surely you aren't saying ya'll are doing that.

Oh, I looked up what "beef" means in 1984 Websters dictionary... it's "Meat from an adult bovine, whether cow, steer or bull"... so it is perfectly legitimate to call meat from dairy cows 'beef'...
