I have a 98-99 500 big boss hung in high gear. Took linkage loose and it is hung in the trans not the shifter. I have tapped on the linkage where it comes out of trans. with hammer while pulling on it to see if it will pop loose, no luck. How tough are they don't want to hit it to hard. Any other ideas? Anybody pull the trans apart on one of these? I am fairly mechanical is this above my pay grade? Thanks for any help or info.

Not very tough I imagine. It is a Polaris after all.

We have a Sportsman 500 that likes to stick in reverse from time to time. The shifter slips ahead into neutral and the trans stays in gear. If you pull it just right, it will go back into reverse, and then you can bump it forward into neutral. Other than that, I'm not much help. In our case the shifter rods are just sloppy and it's not worth spending money on that old POS.
