I live in North Texas and was trying to find out if its to late to plant some type of winter grasses (ryegrass)? If not then what would you recommend for this I have about 20-30 acres I would like to plant some on.

I spread rye grass seed on Dec. 1st last year on the advice of our county extension agent. A lot of it came up in the early spring but I think it would be better to do it in Oct. or early Nov.

Attended a "seminar" on ryegrass before. It's best to remember the 50 90 rule with them. Above 90 degrees and ryegrass dies. Above 50 degrees and ryegrass grows well. Below 50 it is almost dormant, growing very little. I usually try to plant when there is no more chance of the days getting close to 90 degrees - October for us, but I was a little late this year. Planting late will only delay your production in the spring.
