Thought I'd try to post an image and show you my Hereford heifer. She's 15 months old, just got inseminated last week to a Murray Grey bull. Ai guy said she was a nice looking heifer, he raises Herefords. I don't know an awful lot about cattle, but I like her.

With all the semen available nowadays, why did you happen to pick Murrey Grey? Not knocking your choice, especially since I know absolutely nothing about them, but I was curious as to why you didnt want some baldy calves or something like that?

Since it is her first calf, I wanted something with calving ease. I also like the fact that MG's are a more compact breed with good muscling and good milking ability . (Angus x shorthorn)
I live on 4 1/4 acres and don't want to go the miniature route, but also need something to be an easy-keeper.
I like baldy cows too, and might breed her to an Angus next time, or a hereford. The Angus that my Ai guy has semen on looked to be too big of frame for me, same with the herefords. He doesn't have any red angus semen in his tank. Those were all breeds I considered. I'll let you know about the calf in, say, 9 months! ( I hope!)

You should end up with a baldie calf out of your heifer...it might be a grey baldie, but it should definitely be a baldy. I've seen both grey and black baldies out of MG X Herefords.
MG crossed with your hereford heifer should give you an excellent calf with the qualities you're looking for!

I agree.

I think we will be hearing more about the MGs as time goes by. They have alot of qualities many are looking for, unfortunately the breed is not black-- so many dismiss it.

Best of luck with your good looking heifer.

Be my eyes deceiving me or is that one of dem der black herefords in the background  . Just kidding, lower them there hackles back down. Very nice looking heifer susie. You should end up with a very nice cross.

There are black Murray greys out there. I sort of hate to see every breed go black!
My black cow in the background is a 'Hillbilly hybrid', as someone put it on another thread, a Hereford/Holstein cross. She's about 1800 pounds- not really what's going to fit into my program here! She'll soon be going to new home. What a gentle cow though.
Thanks for all the nice comments about my heifer :)
