I'm thinking about breeding my heifer(P.J. shown above) to one of these two bulls but I'm not sure which I like both but I think I like #1 alittle bit more:

i like 1 more. although i'm not sure i'd be brave enough to breed an angus heifer to any charolais bull regardless of his bw epd. i mean they are just two different body types...but whatever.

i agree with beefy on breeding a heifer to bull #1. out of the 3, and not knowing epds, i like bull #3 better for the heifer. jmo

I have to agree with txag on this one. Your bet bet is to breed your heifer to a VERY low birthrate Angus bull. A "sorry" live calf is better that a "hellasious" dead calf. Odds are you are not going to get a "ringer" out of a heifer anyway.

Ah Ha I found him! I was looking for the angus bull I was going to show you I also liked and I found him.Notice any bull that i had picked had calving ease so far except for Artic Chill I just liked him (not meaning I was going to breed him to my heifer) but any ways here is the angus bull I like:

Northern Improvement will still give you the "clubby" look if that is what you are after. I have used him on some simmyXherf heifers and had no trouble. If you want a clubby bull to try on heifers, maybe give Payback a look. Northern Improvement calves are also pretty marketable. Good Luck

None of these boys would seem bad.

Artic Chill and his papa both have the birth weight that an Angus would do good with. I don't know if you would mind if the calf would come out with some socks or prehaps white somewhere else. These things have a way of popping out of now where even way down the line.

Have you heard Fasttracks has any angus offspring in the ring. He looks like he could add some girth and overall body improvement to the Angus.

What strengths and weaknesses do you think your girls have? Do you think they have enough or not enough of something?

Have you also looked on SEK Genetics. http://www.sekgenetics.com/catalog.html . I know they have a good selection. And some semen that isn't in the main catalog is in the price catagory.

Ok here's how I see my girls:

Peanut: She was a bottle baby her mother was old couldn't produce the milk to keep her healthy. So I got her and raised her off a bottle and when she got old enought I showed her. To me she's the normal cow just shorter cause she didn't get Cows milk. You can look at her heifer and see I think just about any bull with her would make a nice cross.

K.C.: I got her when she was around 6 months old and a friend of mine showed her and all the judges said "this heifer has all the depth you could ask for but she doesn't have the width to go with it" And I myself see that cause her steer is the same way. So I would like to find a bull that would put some depth to her.

Baby gurl: not sure What I would cross her with but she needs a calveing ease bull cause she's afirst time heifer

P.J.: Not sure with her neither but she'll need a calveing ease bull aswell

I'm open to any suggestion you guys have

i've been out of the show scene for a while now. maybe some of the showcrowd can help you out. how 'bout it showmom? rgv4? mobetter? cattle_gal? this girl wants to know how to breed her cows to get show calves. can ya'll look at the pics and give her some help?
