Hey! Here is a photo of our Peruvian Paso brood mare, "RTP Ligeia":

She is a 10 year old Registered and Futurity mare who has 4 colts (2 of whom are junior Champions). She is due to foal again in September, 2004 by LEA Conquistador, a Champion of Champions Stallion. Can't wait to see her next foal.

P.S. Ligeia has one heck of a sweet disposition, a great mama, and very nice and smooooooooth to ride!

True! The shows call it the "Champaign Class". The winner takes the prize $$ pot. The PP is also used in Therapeutic Riding Classes and for people with bad backs or other orthopaedic problems which would preclude them from riding another breed. Even though there are a number of naturally gaited breeds, the PP is aclaimed as being the smoothest of them all. The first PP was imported to USA in the 1950s from Peru (if I'm not mistaken). They are also known for endurance and trail riding, and almost never need shoeing.

When you watch a rider on the Peruvian Paso, you can see an even, level straight line of the rider's shoulders while he/she is moving in the Paso Llano gait.

The beginnings of their gait is evidenced soon after birth (along with several other "gaits" the foal is experimenting with. This is a 100% inherited gait among purebred foals.
