I got put to work today. Fed the Morrison Meadow bunches pellets and took net wrap off the silage bales for Wifey. Operating a stick shift went just fine. Nearly two months since my hip replacement. The cows look like they will make the winter...

How does the netwrap come off frozen silage bales in the depths of winter? I've considered using it but sometimes even the plastic will freeze on a bit so I'm hesitant. Of course, this winter I sure could have got away with netwrap on just about everything to this point.

These bales are actually quite dry. Find if they get over 30% moisture is when freezing starts. That and a week or longer of -25 and colder on wetter bales. The bad ones can be set on end for the sun to work on for a day. Very few this year at all, even our oat, pea and barley bales are not froze on.

A photo of the Pellet Puker my son made. We couldn't find a commercially made "caker" with enough capacity that still left room to hook a gooseneck trailer to the truck also. It holds up to 2800 lbs of product and feeds out 300 lbs per minute. If we were to make another it would have a geared down 6 inch feed auger rather than a geared up 4 inch. We still have to ride the clutch a bit in low range first to make a good row of pellets. Pump is activated by turning the light switch on in the truck Live and learn...
