If I walk anywhere near the quad Patty jumps on it, It doesn't matter if I intend to ride it or not. She is ready to go. And when we do go if I stop for any reason she hops off before I can to sniff around. So last night we were up on the road on the quad. Came around a corner and there was a rattle snake on the road. I stopped 10-12 feet passed the snake. As I was getting off and grabbing my shovel, I told her to stay. A person can really read her facial expressions. I looked at her and she is like no problem boss I am not going anywhere. Killed the snake, cut off its head and buried it, cut off the rattles for my collection, and she never moved.

She is half Idaho Shag. Idaho Shags tend to be a bit independent and only listen so good. She fits that description often. But she thinks I am real brave to kill a rattle snake. When she sees one while on the ground she give them lots of room. When she is on the quad or the pickup she isn't getting down when there is a rattle snake around.

Smart Dog!!
(probably sittin on the quad thinking "Off with it's head! Off with it's head!")

How many rattles you have in your collection now?

Saturday I was up on the road on my quad. Some tourist came by in a pickup. I pulled over to let them by. A couple hundred feet down the road they slam on the brakes and a guy jumps out on the passenger side. He is waving me to come down there. Patty who is a social butterfly leaps off because she is sure this guy is her long lost cousin. At about 50 feet I see there is a rattler close to this guy. As I am jumping off the quad I yell at Patty. At about 12-15 feet she sees the snake. An immediate about face and she leaps back on the quad. I kill the snake with my trusty shovel. Lady sitting in the pickup says it is a good thing your dog listened to you and got back on the quad. I said that dog never listens to me. She saw the snake and made tracks back to a safe spot. She may not listen very well but she sure isn't stupid.
